Overview
Lake Rabun is the third in a series of five lakes along the Tallulah River that are operated by the Georgia Power Company. Located in the Northeast Georgia Mountains near Clayton, this long, winding lake is a heaven for jet skiers. Lake Rabun was named after William Rabun, a representative in the state assembly, Senate president, and, eventually, the governor of Georgia. Because of its hard rock gorges and dramatic drops to the waterline, Lake Rabun was long seen as a perfect place for building power-generating dams. Nowadays, the 835-acre lake is great for boating, fishing, and camping. Nacoochee Park is just one of many recreation areas along Lake Rabun’s 25-mile shoreline.
