Overview
Located just eight miles from Cashiers, North Carolina, Lake Glenville is a reservoir formed by the damming of the Tuckasegee River’s west fork in 1941. The lake’s bottom plunges quickly and steeply with depths hitting 80 feet (24 m) just a couple of steps from the waterline. With 26 miles (42 km) of shoreline and the highest elevation of any lake east of the Mississippi, Lake Glenville is a great place to rent jet skis, boats, and water sports equipment. Please note that from 1951 to 2002, the lake was officially known as Thorpe Reservoir after J.E.S. Thorpe, Nantahala Power’s first president. This name might still appear on older maps.
